The Pope formerly known as Cardinal Ratzinger has a decent statement on evolution that the debate between evolution and creationism is "an absurdity."

“They are presented as alternatives that exclude each other,” the pope said. “This clash is an absurdity because on one hand there is much scientific proof in favor of evolution, which appears as a reality that we must see and which enriches our understanding of life and being as such.”

I'd like to thank the Pope for spending some time on something based in reality and not whether unbaptized children go to Limbo or not.
