Let ignorance reign!

Congratulations Louisiana. You are one step closer to signing a bill into law that places religious stupidity in the place of scientific literacy. Your students are guaranteed to have extended moments of confusion that will, in the words of U.C. Berkeley Prof. of Paleontology Kevin Padian and president of the NCSE , "make people stupid."

Yeah. The Times Picayune reports: "Without debate, the House of Representatives gave overwhelming approval Wednesday to a science education bill that one prominent national group predicts could yield a lawsuit over teaching religion in public schools." I'll say.

As I posted earlier today, the Disco 'Tute and the bill's sponsors can't hide behind the creationist smoke and mirrors under close scrutiny. The only way that they could get away with it is if a creationist judge were to just go along for the ride and rubber stamp it with some seal of Jesus' approval.

Take note of what they've targeted:

Senate Bill 733 by Sen. Ben Nevers, D-Bogalusa, would allow science teachers, upon a request by a local school board and approval by state education officials, to use supplemental materials when teaching subjects such as evolution, global warming, cloning and the origin of life.
What are all of these things possible affronts to?
A) Christians' belief in special creation in the image of God by either evolution or the origin of life or
B) the role of man's dominion (and it is men in this case) over nature.
These are people's special beliefs about themselves being pushed, prodded, and questioned and now they want to legislate their particular wishes so that a class of people - scientists - can't challenge them. They want to protect their little magical man and their special place in the universe. Ugh.

Sen. Nevers who proposed the bill has said that he hasn't been recruited by or worked on behalf of any group. As I and others have posted before, this is a plain lie. He has the Louisiana Family Forum and their parent group Focus On The Family on his side and the ultimate ID (un)think tank, the Discovery Institute on his side. Casey Luskin and his horde have been running around Florida, Louisiana, Michigan, South Carolina, Texas, and who knows where else over the last few years spewing nonsense and influencing Christ-friendly legislation. It's all in plain sight Mr. Nevers. Any good judge of public information will see the emperor's new clothes.
